DAVID DUGGAN (The Wizard’s New York trainer)
David Duggan, 55, born and raised in Tipperary, Ireland rode as a professional jockey in Ireland, Germany, Australia and India. He moved to California in 1993 to work for Neil Drysdale, spending eighteen months there, before moving to New York and working as an assistant to John Kimmel for five years. In 2000 David headed west again to Santa Anita, assisting Eoin Harty and Godolphin and spending several seasons at Santa Anita, Arlington Park and in Dubai. He helped train notable multiple graded stakes winners such as Street Cry, E Dubai, Tempera, Imperial Gesture and Zosima.
David started training on his own in New York in 2005, where he’s currently stabled at Belmont Park. He’s had success winning with stakes winners such as Porte Bonheur, Stud Muffin and the recently retired Drafted.
David is married to Lara, who is an experienced horsewoman herself. She can be seen every morning assisting in all barn duties, including exercising and working many of the horses in their stable.
